FRENCH BROAD RIVER  When you fish the French Broad in Tennessee be sure to fish the deeper holes in the river next to moving water, that tactic produces big smallmouth. On the other hand, cast into swift runs and work the bait into the slacker waters. Either tactic is deadly, and all you need is an ultralight spinning rod and reel with a medium action. There are a lot of river lures out there that work and are deadly. Grubs are an all-time favorite, as well as crawfish plugs.
